Patrice S . Johnson , the new CEO of Project Scientist
A POWERFUL PROMOTION
Having already mentored more than 20,000 young women and nonbinary youth across 26 states and in Mexico , Project Scientist is an important leader in after-school education , allowing underserved students the chance to experience the joys of science , technology , engineering , arts and mathematics . Project Scientist founder and former CEO Sandy Marshall , who lives in Laguna Beach , has now passed the reins to Patrice S . Johnson , who previously served as the inaugural chief program officer for the nonprofit Black Girls Code . Prior to that , Johnson was the vice president for the Center for Policy Analysis & Research and the Leadership Institute at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation , showcasing a history of encouraging the promotion of minorities to leadership roles worldwide . In a recent press release , Board Chair Julie St . John called her a “ visionary leader for social equity .” Johnson took over as CEO and president in August and hopes to inspire future innovators to experience confidence in their STEAM skills . Offering programs in both English and Spanish for children between the ages of 4 and 18 , Project Scientist also recently celebrated its 10th anniversary .
