Goa Govt Websites- A mockery!

shabby state, hardly updated and difficult to rely
upon in most cases.
Our transparent IITan Chief Minister does
not feel the need to provide an interface using
which a common man can reach out to him when
other states like Kerala have dedicated websites
for interaction with CM and his office.
The Information Technology (IT) Department
which is supposed to be at the helm of the EGovernance affair does not have a website of
its own and has hardly any concrete information
to share onto the current, complete and accurate
information related to the functions and services
provided by Government of Goa and its constituent departments to the Citizens, Businesses and
other interested users (e.g. Tourists and Investors) ‘ there is outdated, misguiding and misleading information through some of the links. There
is no information on acts and rules, hardly any on
schemes (except 23 schemes of Art and Culture
and 7of agricultural department and 2 of Central
Library) when there are links on the state portal
for the same.

The latest press release here dates back to
September 2013. Many links have wrong information. For instance, click at the Kala Academy
link on the main page of the portal and you will
get a shock of your life. The one page website to
which you will be directed to is an advertisement
for one vanity number giving website from UK
called City Numbers ( www.citynumbers.co.uk).
Go to the How to page and look for lands
record information. The link which the citizens
are told to follow i.e. http://egov.goa.nic.in/dslr/
homepage.aspx doesn’t work and moreover if
you try to go backward and go to http://egov.goa.
nic.in you will be taken to the Lusofonia Games
page. Truly amazing, isn’t it? No one has felt the
need to go and change the URL to the new http://
dslr.goa.nic.in/ URL of land and settlement department. Maybe the government wants the public to grapple around in the dark for a while and
play online treasure hunt!
Cross department Right to Information portal mentioned on the state portal and designed by
NIC is another sic story. With an almost user unfriendly interface the site hardly has any informa-

tion on offer. There are an array of links ranging
from Organization Duties & Powers of Officers
to Projects and Schemes, but these links have
hardly any information listed under them.
The state of most of the department websites
is equally sickening but for a few exceptions like
the Art & Culture, Commercial Tax, North Goa
Collectorate and a few more.
What is the purpose of creating these websites? Are they built and maintained to flaunt
the exchequers money? Are they just showpieces? Isn’t there any monitoring authority which
browses through the contents for its validity and
timeliness? Is there anyone accountable for this
gross display of apathy?
