VEI module summary 39 events that have some great technology but people aren ’ t given the time or the instruction to get to grips with what they ’ re being asked to do with the technology . These events fail as people get frustrated .
The tools for me are the final step . When I say tools , I mean you will need more than one . There is no magical tool that does everything that you need . There are ways to integrate different tools and you need to learn how this happens so you ’ re not always in one platform . I therefore talk about the challenges and the advantages to getting the best fit for your overall tech stack .
What unique key teachings will students learn during the module that they can ’ t get elsewhere ?
They ’ ll learn to put the concept first and the tools last . I create a lot of frameworks of various different types of events in order to show the varying objectives . I ask students to study the event participants before mapping out the tools . Finally , I share my unique resource - The Online Events Wiki .
Three tips for virtual event organisers when choosing a platform
1 . Start with the event ’ s objectives and then match the right technology to those , not the other way around . 2 . Focus on finding the best-fit technology stack for you , keep in mind this is likely to involve more than one tool , so make sure you understand how to connect the tools together . 3 . Before you commit to a platform , clarify in detail what is included , the costs ( including payment terms ) and also the service level that can be expected .
