For the past 26 years Investing in African Mining Indaba has run as a four-day live event in South Africa . It is normally a mix of conference and exhibition with hosted meetings and networking opportunities . However , due to the global pandemic , the decision was made to convert it to a virtual event , where the industry could discuss the impact of COVID and the future recovery . The virtual event also provided a platform for sharing information and updating the market on the latest industry developments .
What was the client ’ s business objective , and how did provision of an online / hybrid event help achieve this ?
Whilst there could be no live event , there was a need to maintain a presence in the mining sector . The focus of the event was to provide industry updates for our regular attendees but also engage with new delegates who may not have been able to travel to the event in the past . This was achieved by creating moderated speaker panels that were aligned to the event sponsors , who in turn participated on these panels .
There was a good mixture of content with country updates from each of the Presidents of South Africa , Sierra Leone and Botswana and themed panels set around specific topics featuring high level mining CEOs sharing their insight into the post-COVID mining world .
To reduce viewer fatigue , the virtual event was designed with dedicated breaks with a mix of sponsored and curated content . The event ran for five hours a day to cover as many time zones as possible whilst giving delegates the opportunity to carry on with their normal working day and engage with the online event .
