written gospels is a synthesis of all of the models, the best of each of them. It was an oral
tradition that was meticulously safeguarded by the apostles and those designated with
authority in the Church, in a communal society of believers, for liturgical use, preaching, and
teaching about the words and deeds of the Christ.
