O Jesus, I want to live in the present moment, to live as if this were the last day of my life. I want to use every moment scrupulously for the greater glory of God, to use every circumstance for the benefit of my soul. I want to look upon everything, from the point of view that nothing happens without the will of God. God of unfathomable mercy, embrace the whole world and pour Yourself out upon us through the merciful Heart of Jesus (Diary, # 1183). (7.4) God Hates the Least Sin but Rejoices in the Sinner Who Seeks His Mercy 123 (Diary, # 1334): Sr. Faustina wrote in her Diary that the Thrice Holy God (Is 6:3) hates the least sin and even leaves souls to their own counsel if they remained attached to it. But He pursues sinful man in adversity, and rejoices when he repents or seeks His pardon and mercy through His Church. Sr. Faustina also felt in her own soul, a great loathing for even the tiniest sin, having learned from the Lord Himself how greatly it offended Him. Yet, He does not cease speaking to souls through their guilty conscience, their sorrows, or their life’s disappointments. He is always there, with His merciful Heart, through His Church, to welcome these repentant souls back to Him. Jesus told Sr. Faustina (Diary, # 1334): Write: I am the Thrice Holy God and I detest the smallest sin. I cannot love a soul which is stained with sin; but when it repents, there is no limit to my generosity toward it. My mercy embraces and justifies it. With My Mercy, I pursue sinners along all their paths, and My Heart rejoices when they return to Me. I forget the bitterness with which they fed My Heart and rejoice at their return…Write that I am speaking through their remorse of conscience, through their failures and sufferings, through thunderstorms, through the voice of the Church. And if they bring to naught, I begin to be angry with them, leaving them alone and giving them what they want” (Diary, # 1334). 123 Ibid., Faustina, Diary, # 1728. 40
