On the acts of mercy to others, it is in accord with Scripture teaching on love of God and love of neighbor for His sake (Mk 12:30-31), confirms the Christian’s faith by his works (Jm 2:26); lxxxvi while honoring His Divine Mercy and living out His mandate, as well (Diary, # 163, 742). 335 As Sr. Faustina wrote in her Diary, Christ confirmed that man needed to “show mercy” to others; and He provided ways on how to go about it, as well as His own reasons for it: My daughter…I demand from you deeds of mercy, which are to arise out of love for Me. You are to show mercy to your neighbors always and everywhere. You must not shrink from this, or try to excuse or absolve yourself from it. I am giving you three ways of exercising mercy toward your neighbor: the first - by deed, the second – by word, the third – by prayer. In these three degrees is contained the fullness of mercy, and it is an unquestionable proof of love for Me. By this means a soul glorifies and pays reverence to My mercy…because even the strongest faith is of no avail without works (Diary, # 742). (2.2) Christ Asks to Spread the Divine Mercy Mission (Diary, # 164, 1075) Christ told Sr. Faustina, “Speak to the world about My great mercy” (Diary, # 164) and promised great blessings for doing so, “Souls who spread the honor of My mercy I shield through their entire lives as a tender mother her infant, and at the hour of death I will not be a Judge for them, but the merciful Savior. At that last hour, a soul has nothing with which to defend itself except My mercy. Happy is the soul that during its lifetime immersed itself in the Fountain of Mercy, because justice will have no hold on it” (Diary, # 1075). (2.3) Being “Transformed into God’s Mercy” and His “Living Reflection” 336 Sr. Faustina wrote pointers in her Diary on how to be “completely transformed into God’s mercy and be His living reflection” for the sake of his own soul, that of his neighbor, as well as for God’s glory. In a poetic style and prayerful manner, she wrote praises and petitions to 335 336 Ibid., Pope John Paul II, Dives in Misericordia, V-8. Ibid., Faustina, Diary, #163. 199
