III C.3 The Holy Eucharist as the “Source and Summit of the Christian Life” (CCC, 1324) (3.1) “Jesus-Host, We Know Each Other – That is Enough for Me” (Diary, # 877) Sr. Faustina wrote in her Diary, “O Jesus concealed in the Host, my sweet Master, and faithful Friend, how happy my soul is to have such a Friend who always keeps me company. I do not feel lonely even though I am in isolation. Jesus-Host, we know each other – that is enough for me.” (3.2) “One Thing Alone Sustains Me and that is Holy Communion” (Diary, # 1037) Sr. Faustina wrote in her Diary that Jesus, hidden in the Sacred Host is the Source of her supernatural strength in weakness as well as her consolation and courage in bearing suffering. He is also her Way to glorify God. If she missed Holy Communion, she dreaded her own terribly flawed self. She wrote in her Diary, “One thing alone sustains me and that is Holy Communion” (Diary, # 1037). (3.3) Holy Communion: “Fills the Soul with God’s Light and Nourishes It” 303 (Diary, # 1278): Sr. Faustina wrote in her Diary, “I receive Holy Communion in the manner of the Angels, so to speak. My soul is filled with God’s light and nourishes itself from Him. My feelings are as if dead. This is a purely spiritual union with God; it is a great predominance of spirit over nature.” (Diary, # 1447): Sr. Faustina also noted that Jesus expressed immense grief when souls failed to unite themselves to Him as well as when they remained cold, apathetic and distrustful of Him during Holy Communion. His people did not seem to realize that God loves His people greatly and wants to pour His great graces upon them for their own good: 303 Ibid., Faustina, Diary, # 1278, 1447. 178
