urgently, “My daughter, help Me to save souls. You will go to a dying sinner, and you will
continue to recite the Chaplet, and in this way you will obtain for him trust in My mercy, for he is
already in despair.”
(Diary, # 1798). Suddenly, Sr. Faustina observed herself to be “in a strange cottage of an
elderly man” in his bed, dying, and suffering greatly. His grieving family and “a multitude of
demons” surrounded his bedside. As Sr. Faustina began praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy,
the evil spirits bolted away, while taunting, and threatening her. Then the soul became serene;
and “filled with trust, rested in the Lord.” At the same time, Sr. Faustina got back to her room,
but did not understand how it all came to be.
(Diary, # 936): At another time, a dying person in Sr. Faustina’s ward was going through
intense and prolonged agony for the past three days. There was also great uncertainty as to how
long it would last. Sr. Faustina wanted to visit this poor soul but the Mother Superior denied her
request. She was then inspired to pray to Jesus in her own room, “Jesus, if all I do is pleasing to
You, I ask You, as evidence, to let that soul stop suffering and pass on immediately to her happy
eternity.” Her prayers were granted, and the poor soul died peacefully soon afterwards.
(18.3) On Praying for the Happy Death of a Suffering Soul (Diary, # 985)
On February 25, 1937, Sr. Faustina decidedly prayed for the happy death of a certain
soul who had been suffering greatly and was bordering between life and death for the past two
weeks. Moved with compassion for her, Sr. Faustina asked the Lord, “Sweet Jesus, if the works I
am undertaking for Your glory are pleasing to You, then please take her to Yourself and let her
rest in Your mercy.” Sr. Faustina received the good news shortly that the person who had been
suffering so much had just died.
