DBM: Tell us about your beaded frog and lilypad design (pictured, above) – he is gorgeous! Where did the idea come from and was he difficult to create? OS: As a child I lived near the river, so, I’m very close to all that relates to the water element. However, I was always afraid of frogs. One day I was asked to make a frog to order. I decided that if I make a frog, it will be something like therapy to get rid of a phobia. Now I am no longer afraid – I even admire these creatures. With my beaded frog, we immediately became friends. I made it easily and quickly. The lotus handbag I did for a Russian exhibition. I wanted to show its capabilities in beaded work. Way to create a lotus leaf came suddenly. I tried different ways of weaving and suddenly achieved exactly what was needed. It was an amazing feeling. My “Undine” necklace (inset) I created specifically for Battle of the Beadsmith 2013. This is the only necklace, where I did not invent anything new - except for the pattern. I just enjoyed the process of creation, each bead, every pebble. The main thing I wanted to achieve was harmony – harmonious jewellery reflecting my inner harmony and the harmony of the creation process. This necklace has turned out very quiet, peaceful.
