Anatomy of the Digestive

Parts of the digestive system:

1) Mouth: Is where digestion first startsfrom the moment you take the first bite of food. By chewing you break the food into smaller pieces that are easier to digest; these pieces then mix with food to make it into a form your body can use it to absorb its nutrients and use.

2) Esophagous: Recieves food and from the moment you swallow and then delievers it to your stomach.

3) Stomach: Holds food and here it is mixed with enzymes that continue the process of breaking food into a usable form for your body.

4) Small Intestine: Includes the duodenum, the jejunum, and the ileum. In the small intestine the food continues to break down with the help of enzymes, so all the nutrients that our bodies need can be absorbed.

5) Pancreas: Secretes digestive enzymes into the duodenum, yo break down proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. The pancreas also makes insulin which is a hormone for metabolizing sugar.

6) Gall bladder: Stores and concentrates bile.

7) Large intestine or colon: Contains the appendix, caecum, rectum and colum, waste is processedand passesd to the colon.

8) Rectum: Connects the colon to the anus
