2019 SPOTLIGHT CHARITIES
DEELEY SERVES
INTRODUCING OUR 2019 SPOTLIGHT CHARITIES, VOTED ON BY DEELEY EMPLOYEES
Founded in 2007 by Jeff and Diana Merritt, owners of Salisbury’s Minuteman Press,
Operation We Care packs more than 2,000 care packages a year and sends them to
deployed troops. Activities and events support active duty and veteran military.
“The organization is a great way to actually reach out to soldiers,” says Bethany Miller,
Deeley Insurance Group Client Relations Agent. “To be able to support our troops in a
hands-on way where we are sending them packages—you can really make
a difference.”
The 500 pinwheels placed around town
by Deeley Insurance Group staff were
designed to remind the community of
Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April.
This is just one of the many efforts our
agency supports through the Life Crisis
Center, a nonprofit agency focused on
crisis intervention and violence prevention.
It provides a range of services to victims of
domestic violence, sexual assault, and
child abuse.
“They help so many different people and
also provide child advocacy and suicide
prevention,” says Cathy Mason, Deeley
Accounting Manager.
Believe in Tomorrow provides exceptional hospital and respite housing services
to critically ill children and their families. Sam Glaeser, Deeley Insurance Group
Client Advisor, grew up in the Ocean City, Maryland, area and is passionate about
supporting the community through this organization. This year, Sam was named
to the Believe in Tomorrow Prom Court, which means she’ll be spearheading a
fundraising effort for the organization. “Believe in Tomorrow gives a life-changing
experience to families, and to know that our town is involved in making that happen
is incredible,” Glaeser says.
As one of our focus charities, the Deeley
Insurance Group team will support
their June 8th fundraiser and October
Halloween party.
“The fact that we have so many people at
this company who want to volunteer their
time makes me love it here even more,”
Mason says.
Surfers Healing is a surf camp serving children with autism, and its team
travels the country to take kids out on the water—and show them what
they are capable of accomplishing. Every year, the volunteer-staffed camp
provides a fun, engaging day at the beach to more than 4,500 children with
autism and their families. More than 200 families came out to last year’s
local event (featured on the DIG cover).
A mother stood in front of families at Surfers Healing in Ocean City and
shared a testimony that Trevor Frederick, Deeley Insurance Group Client
Advisor, will never forget: “Her daughter was reluctant to get into the
water at first. But the surfer grabbed her and said, ‘Let’s go!’, so she went
out and came up on the beach . . . and then the surfer said, ‘Let’s go again!’
She looked at her mom and said, ‘Mommy, can I go again?’ The mom’s face
went white and she stared. ‘You don’t understand,’ she told the surfer. ‘My
daughter is eight years old and she has never spoken a day in her life.’”
Deeley will assist with fundraising and volunteer activities leading up to
this year’s big day—August 14, 2019. “The main objective is for the families
who participate to have no financial burden, whether that’s covering the
cost of travel or hotel or the camp itself,” Frederick relates.
