MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
all understood the importance of
information exchange across differ-
ent parts of the health-care system.
Therefore, it was never a discussion
of “why do we need to do this?” but
rather a shared exploration of how
best to accomplish our goal.
We also engaged with the Citizen
Advisory Group to help identify
the key issues among patients and
caregivers and to seek feedback
on what constitutes reasonable
expectations for physicians. We
conducted patient polling and held
two forums in order to engage a
variety of stakeholder organizations,
health-care providers, and patient
advocates in a discussion on key
elements of the draft policies.
The final policies are substantially
different than the draft versions
that many of you provided feedback
on. The policy redesign initiative
made it possible to identify core
expectations while the companion
(advisory) document addresses the
practical challenges that were raised
by feedback from patients and phy-
sicians alike. We believe, with your
help, we have been able to deliver
policies that are workable, reason-
able and very much in the public
and patient interest.
So thank you for your help as,
together, we took on this important
initiative. I urge you to read the
article on page 9 about the changes
and why we made them. The four
policies are on our website.
