Redesign of College
policies underway
Policy expectations to be made more clear
and concise, with a more accessible format
The College’s work in bringing physicians policies that are more clear
and concise is well underway. In fact, the first batch of redesigned
policies will come before Council shortly, with the aim of transitioning
all existing policies to the new approach by the end of 2019.
We are redesigning College policies with a focus on enhancing their
use and readability for physicians, said Craig Roxborough, Manager
of the College’s Policy Department. The new redesign aligns with the
College’s adoption of right touch regulation.
Inspired by the The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, our
new approach consists of the following:
“We anticipate that
they will now be
easier to understand
and apply to practice”
A move to a numbered/bulleted list format instead of the
current long-form narrative approach;
Clear articulation of what is required and what is simply
recommended; and
A companion Advice to the Profession document that
elaborates on the policy’s rationale and provides general
advice to physicians on best practices or how to meet their
obligations
Those policies that are not under current review are now being
formatted into the new design. Policies that are currently under review
are also being transitioned to this new approach, but as part of that
review process.
“We anticipate that they will now be easier to understand and apply to
practice,” said Craig Roxborough.
