Introducing New President,
Vice-President of Council
Dr. Peeter Poldre
PRESIDENT
Dr. Peeter Poldre is a Professor Emeritus of Medicine at the University of Toronto
Faculty of Medicine and for the past 30 years, he has been a consultant-hematolo-
gist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
Dr. Poldre joined the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine in 1984, after com-
pleting a two-year fellowship in Hematology at Tufts-New England Medical Centre,
Boston. He has taught extensively and was the inaugural Vice President Education
and Academy Director at Sunnybrook. In 1998, he earned a Doctorate in Education
from the University of Toronto. His promotion to Professor in 2005 was preceded
in 2004 with the Teacher of the Year Award from the Department of Medicine. He
served for eight years as Sunnybrook's Vice President Medical Professional Prac-
tice. For the last two years of that role, he was also the Chief of Staff at St. John's
Rehabilitation Hospital.
In August 2012, Dr. Poldre was appointed to the College’s Discipline Committee.
In October 2012, he was elected in a by-election in Toronto to College Council. He
was re-elected for a 3-year term in 2014 and 2017. As College President, Dr. Poldre
chairs the Executive Committee. He is a member of the policy working group on
Continuity of Care.
Dr. Brenda Copps VICE-PRESIDENT
Dr. Brenda Copps is a family physician in Hamilton.
Dr. Copps has worked in leadership positions at all levels of the local health-care
system, including a term as Chief of the Department of Family Medicine at St. Jo-
seph’s Hospital, and board member and Chair of the Hamilton Family Health Team.
She currently holds appointments at St. Joseph's Healthcare System and Hamilton
Health Sciences and has an assistant clinical professorship with the Department of
Family Medicine in The Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine. She received her
medical education at McMaster University.
Dr. Copps was elected to Council in 2013 and re-elected in 2016. During her time
on Council, Dr. Copps has sat on the Education Committee and co-chaired the
Quality Assurance Committee. She is now Chair of the Continuity of Care Policy
Working Group and a member of the Executive Committee.
