QUALITY ASSURANCE COMMITTEE
PHOTO: ARASH MOALLEMI the Durham EndoSurgery Centre in Ajax, has participated in CPSO activities in several capacities: peer assessor; co-chair of the Premises Inspection Committee and member of the Quality Assurance Committee( QAC). Dr. Kendall has also been involved in boosting systemwide quality management for endoscopy providers and outof-hospital facilities. He has also been an active member in the Quality Management Partnership between the College and Cancer Care Ontario, initially, as a member of the GI Endoscopy Advisory Committee and now as a Regional Lead for the colonoscopy quality management program. Giving his time to the College is important to Dr. Kendall, who is also the Regional Colorectal Screening / Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Lead for the Central East Regional Cancer Program. And he suggests that physicians shouldn’ t take medical regulation for granted.“ It’ s certainly a mark of trust that the government places in the profession,” he says. Serving with the College’ s QA Committee is another way for him to make a mark on quality. He says he has gained in other ways from his CPSO duties, developing a greater appreciation for the range of the College’ s roles, and getting some professional enrichment. As a peer assessor, he’ d take note of practice ideas and try to apply the best in his own practice. Dr. Kendall also understands the importance of having
both professional and public members involved in governance, and the
Ms. Kennedy special perspectives that held yet another each group brings.
Long after her landmark appointment, Ms. public member to
distinction: the first
Kennedy took a keen serve on a College interest in her grandson’ s own service with the committee
College. She’ d ask Dr. Kendall insightful questions about his efforts, and about issues facing the CPSO and regulatory processes. Betty Kennedy and Hugh Kendall may have a singular story, but they came to realize a universal truth – regulation continues to work in large part because of the tug of service, across generations.
