Dr. Philip Berger was Chief of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at St. Michael’ s from 1997- 2013. Throughout his career, he has been recognized as an advocate for all people, regardless of their circumstances. It was recently announced that Dr. Berger would be inducted into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame.
In 1987, Dr. Berger co-founded the Toronto HIV Primary Care Physicians Group and established the HIV Project Centre Primary Care Mentor Program.
Dr. Haidar Mahmoud returns to Council for a second term. Before joining Council in 2014, Dr. Mahmoud served as a College assessor for more than 10 years.
In 1995, he completed residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Toronto. He has served as the Vice-President of the Medical Staff Association of the Scarborough Hospital and as Chief of its OB / GYN department from 2004-2010.
Dr. Mahmoud recently completely a Masters Certification on Patient Safety and Quality Assurance from the University of Toronto.
Dr. Peeter Poldre

Dr. Poldre returns to Council. He joined the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine in 1984, after completing a two-year fellowship in Hematology at Tufts-New England Medical Centre. He has taught extensively and was the inaugural Vice-President Education and Academy Director at Sunnybrook. He served for eight years as Sunnybrook’ s Vice-President Medical Professional Practice.
In October 2012, Dr. Poldre was elected in a by-election held in Toronto for College Council. He was re-elected for a 3-year term in October 2014. In January 2015, Dr. Poldre was appointed Chair of the Discipline Committee.
Dr. Patrick Safieh
Toronto

Dr. Patrick Safieh is new to the Council table. He has, however, been an assessor for many years for the College and is currently co-chair of the Quality Assurance Committee.
Dr. Safieh is a family and emergency physician, and for the past several years, has been Chief of Family Medicine at St. Joseph’ s Health Centre in Toronto. He also teaches learners of all stages in his clinical practice.
Dr. Safieh has participated in various hospital administration positions throughout his career.
