MAiD
The amendments provide immunity to physicians, nurse practitioners
— and anyone assisting them — from actions or proceedings arising
from the lawful provision of MAiD
plement those made to the Coroner’s Act. The
amendments clarify that the Coroner does
not need to complete the medical certificate
of death for all MAiD deaths. The Coroner
will only complete the medical certificate of
death where an investigation is undertaken.
Where no investigation is undertaken, the
physician or nurse practitioner involved will
complete the death certificate. considered to have died as a result of his or
her underlying injury or disease. This ensures
that where a worker received MAiD, a claim
made under the Act will be determined based
on the illness or disease for which the worker
was deemed eligible to receive MAiD. The
amendments ensure that workers’ entitlement
to benefits is not impacted by the fact that
they have pursued MAiD.
