MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
whom I may not have otherwise met. I was impressed by your thoughtfulness and your grace in meeting the challenges inherent to modern medical practice. It is clear that most doctors want to do well by their patients and strive to do so every single day.
I am pleased with all that we accomplished at the College this year as we worked closely with government and a range of stakeholders to ensure that Ontario’ s health regulatory system remained at the forefront of public protection. The past year was also significant for the development of a policy that provided guidance to physicians and members of the public on the issue of medical assistance in dying. The policy was well-received, with many describing the guidance as practical, clarifying, helpful and, most importantly, respectful of the patient experience.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to express my thanks to a number of people who were essential to my success in the role.
The entirety of the College staff, under the leadership of the Registrar and Senior Management, were consistently available and willing to support me in my duties. My colleagues at the Hospital for Sick Children were generous of their time and flexibility to give me the time to serve as President. And lastly( but not least), the love, support and encouragement of my family and friends was essential to my success, and will be forever appreciated.
Your next President will be the very capable Dr. David Rouselle. I have been impressed with David’ s thoughtfulness and integrity as we have worked together over the past several years, and I urge you to read the interview with him on page 20. Thank you.
