New website section devoted to CPD
Lifelong learning is fundamental to being a good physician. And, since 2011, all physicians in Ontario have been required to participate in a program of Continuing Professional Development( CPD) that meets requirements set by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the College of Family Physicians of Canada, and to track their credits with a recognized CPD tracking organization. But keeping up with CPD isn’ t as hard as you might think, and there are many ways to earn credits.
CPD can be free or low cost, it can occur independently, online, in small groups or in large, more traditional lecture based presentations. It can be related to new developments in clinical practice and evidenced-based care, or perhaps focus on ethical issues, areas of practice management or be spent in reflection.
“ I am proud of this new section of our website,” said Dr. Rocco Gerace, College Registrar.“ We have a role in ensuring that physicians understand their CPD obligations and that involves creating a space that centralizes“ the need to know” information while providing access to quality resources,” he said.
Our new section:
• Provides information on the CPD regulatory requirement and approved CPD tracking organizations;
• Provides CPD and practice improvement resources to support learning( with resources organized by CanMeds roles); and
• Shows you how to gain and report CPD credits for CPSO activities.
