d
etermine the number of physicians with
active licences in more than one province or
territory;
identify where physicians enter practice
after completing their training; and
identify when individuals receive their
degrees, licensure, certification or other
credentials.
The MINC allows authorized user organizations to link their databases (or selected parts),
thus providing a “common currency” to allow
the accurate identification of physicians across
Canada, he said.
Dr. Rocco Gerace, College Registrar, said
obtaining a MINC is simply the professional
thing to do.
“When doctors provide consent to allow us
to submit their information to MINC, they
are responsibly recognizing the important role
that accurate and up-to-date databases play in
medical regulation and health-care planning.
It helps everyone if medical organizations are
able to correctly identify all their members,”
he said.
Some of the organizations currently using
the MINC system include:
- Canadian Medical Association (CMA)
- Ontario Medical Association (OMA)
- Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of
Canada (RCPSC)
- College of Family Physicians of Canada
(CFPC)
- all Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons in
Canada
- the Medical Council of Canada (MCC)
- Canadian Medical Protective Association
(CMPA)
- All Ontario medical schools
In order to get your MINC, simply fill out
the consent form on the College’s Members’
section of the website www.cpso.on.ca.
Upon receiving your consent, we will
submit the following information to MINC:
name(s), gender, date of birth, country of
birth and year and university of graduation
(note: previous names if applicable and other
identifiers if necessary to confirm identity
may also be submitted).
There is no cost to you for obtaining a MINC.
MINC is a not-for-profit organization
jointly owned by the Federation of Medical
Regulatory Authorities of Canada and the
Medical Council of Canada.
