Introducing new President
and Vice-President
Drs. Joel Kirsh, David Rouselle to lead Council in coming year
Dr. joel kirsh President
Dr. Kirsh is a pediatric cardiologist specializing in heart rhythm disorders at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto. After graduate training in biomedical engineering at Northwestern University in
Chicago, Dr. Kirsh attended medical school at the University of Toronto,
followed by postgraduate residencies and fellowships in Toronto, London
and Boston, eventually returning to a staff position in the Division of
Cardiology at SickKids. He is cross-appointed in the Cardiac Critical Care
program at SickKids and maintains courtesy privileges at the University
Health Network, Mount Sinai Hospital, and Schneider Children’s Hospital (Tel Aviv). Dr. Kirsh is the Founder and Medical Director of Camp Oki,
which was Canada’s first summer camp program for children with heart
disease when it was launched in 2004.
Following two terms on the Governing Council of the University of Toronto and serving as President of the Medical
Staff at SickKids, Dr. Kirsh came to Council in 2011 as an elected member from District 10. He now sits at the Council
table as an academic representative from the University of Toronto. Dr. Kirsh chaired the working groups that developed the College’s eHealth position statement and the recent revision of the Telemedicine policy. In the coming year,
he will serve on the Education, Governance and Outreach Committees and will also chair the Executive Committee

Dr. david rouselle vice-President
Dr. Rouselle is an obstetrician/gynecologist at Southlake Regional Health
Centre in Newmarket. He grew up in Parry Sound and is a 1981 graduate
of Queen’s University medical school. Dr. Rouselle began his career as a
family physician, completing a residency in that discipline at the former
University of Western Ontario before going on to complete his residency
in obstetrics/gynecology at McMaster University.
Dr. Rouselle has been a District 5 Council member since 2011. Before
becoming a Council member, he was appointed vice-chair (obstetrics) of
the College’s Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee. He held that
position for four years, before becoming chair of the Committee in 2015.
In the coming year, Dr. Rouselle will sit on the Executive, Finance, Governance and Outreach Committees, among other duties.
