11 Professional Obligations and Human Rights
The College of Physicians and Surgeons
of Ontario is the licensing and regulatory
body governing the practice of medicine
in Ontario. The College is responsible
for setting and maintaining medical
standards, licensing physicians,
investigating complaints about physicians
on behalf of the public, and disciplining
doctors found to have committed act(s) of
professional misconduct.
Council has approved a policy which sets out physicians’ existing legal obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code and the College’s expectation that
physicians will respect the fundamental rights of those who seek their services.
The policy is attached to page 19.
21 Marijuana for Medical Purposes
In light of federal regulations that significantly alter the legislative framework
governing patient access to dried marijuana, the College has provided new
expectations for physicians. The policy is attached to page 27.
23 Opportunities to Better Protect Patients
C
ouncil discusses some proposed changes to better protect and support
patients who have been sexually abused by physicians.
25 Regulation of Out-of-Hospital Facilities
The College has developed a submission to Health Quality Ontario’s review of
out-of-hospital facilities that puts forward a proposal for a single regulatory
framework for oversight.
Dialogue is published 4 times a year.
The subscription rate is included in the annual
membership fee and is $36.00.
