New physician members of Council
Dr. haidar mahmoud
Council welcomes Dr. Haidar Mahmoud to Council. Dr. Mahmoud was
elected to Council in District 10.
Dr. Mahmoud is currently a Consultant obstetrician and gynecologist
at the Scarborough Hospital. He has been a lecturer at the University of
Toronto since 2010.
Dr. Mahmoud was the Chief of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Scarborough Hospital, Birchmount Campus from 2004-2010.
Dr. Mahmoud attended medical school in Iraq. He came to Canada in
the mid-1980s and completed his residency at the University of Toronto
in 1995.
Dr. Mahmoud has been an assessor in the College’s Quality Assurance
Program since 2005.
Dr. Mahmoud will sit on the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee, among other duties.
Dr. akbar panju

Council is pleased to welcome Dr. Akbar Panju to Council as the academic representative for McMaster University. He replaces Dr. John Watts
whose term has ended.
Dr. Panju is a Professor of Medicine and Associate Chair, Clinical, at
McMaster University and Past Chief of Medicine at Hamilton Health Sciences. He is the recipient of the Medard DeGroote Chair in Medicine and
he is also a Medical Director of the Medard DeGroote Institute for Pain
Research and Care and Medical Director of the Boris Academic Ambulatory Clinic.
After graduating from the University of Liverpool in 1974, Dr. Panju completed his internship and then did four years of general practice in Northern Ontario, and in Cambridge, Ontario and this was followed by residency
training in internal medicine at McMaster University with special training in
cardiology, thrombosis and clinical epidemiology and biostatistics.
Dr. Panju will sit on the Education Committee, among other duties.
