Participants in workshops and performance at Dartmouth House .
PERFORMING SHAKESPEARE COMPETITION 2013
What did you learn from the teachers ’ workshops ?
MF : Now this is the difficult bit – I loved the workshops … they gave us a reminder of ways to engage pupils immediately when teaching Shakespeare , in ways which appeal to different learners . Also , how daunting it can be to perform , so that we can support students who feel reluctant to take part .
ER : More than anything , the workshops reminded me always to explore the intentions and motivations behind each word and phrase . While this is probably at the heart of many drama teachers ’ practice , it was useful as an English teacher to have more emphasis placed on this .
What was your favourite part of the day ?
MF : The workshop with pupils , as we see what they can get out of some of the activities introduced to teachers earlier in our workshops .
ER : It has to be the competition itself . Seeing such a wonderful array of talent on display was a pleasure from start to finish .
Next year , we hope to grow the competition even further . If you would like more information about the competition , please contact a member of the education team .
