SALINAS MASTER PLAN
Client: Bristol Group
Services: Master Planning
Size: 75 acres
Completion: 2009
Location: Salinas, California
The Alisal Marketplace master plan proposes a strategy for the redevelopment
and densification of approximately 75 acres of land in the heart of Salinas,
California. Currently occupied by a scattering of light industrial uses, the area
is envisaged as a vibrant pedestrian-oriented community that is rooted in the
regions strong Hispanic heritage.
The plan incorporates a dynamic mix of new land uses woven together with
existing uses through infill development and a well-integrated network of roads,
pathways and public open space. The two focal points of the plan will be a new
public marketplace north of East Alisal Street and a civic campus - comprised of
commercial uses, medical buildings and a police station - to the south. Additional
uses include a hotel, various commercial and light industrial buildings, places for
learning and over 500 residential units.
In addition to being a compact, diverse and fine-grained community, the Alisal
Marketplace will focus on increasing energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse
gas emissions through green building technology and infrastructure and through
provisions for low-impact transportation options such as cycling and public
transit.
