LONSDALE QUAY MARKET AND HOTEL MIXED-USE Client: Intrawest Properties Ltd. Services: Architecture, Urban Design, Master Planning Cost: $13.5 M Size: 9,995 sq m Completion: 1986 Location: North Vancouver, British Columbia Lonsdale Quay is a major transit hub for Vancouver’s North Shore municipalities, as well as a public market and tourist destination. Located at the foot of Lonsdale Avenue in the City of North Vancouver, it is the northern terminal for the SeaBus passenger ferry. A view of the Vancouver harbour can be seen from the plaza outside the public market, which is located adjacent to the terminal/bus loop. The quay is located on the former site of North Van Ship Repair, a major shipyard during World War II. The Lonsdale Quay Market is an example of the complexities involved in a multi-purpose, multi-disciplined design that focuses on neighbourhoods, regions, cultures, landscapes, architecture, and economies. The vertical layering of the complex combines a 50-stall fresh food market; 28 specialty shops; three restaurants; a nightclub; and a 57-room boutique hotel with meeting facilities all in one building envelope.
