3333 MAIN STREET MIXED-USE RESIDENTIAL Client: Bastion Development Corp. Services: Architecture Cost: $50 M Size: 10,684 sq m (115,000 sq ft) Completion: 2012 Location: Vancouver, British Columbia In recent years the South Main Street area in Vancouver has seen a resurgence in popularity. There is a sense of a “new Main Street” identity being forged. This identity is based on the creative energy that defines the area. It is spontaneous, hip, youthful and distinct. The project strives to provide an architecture that engenders these sensibilities. This 5-storey mixed-use building is contemporary in an artistic, creative community. Its strong horizontality and the playful use of colour, pattern and form speak to the history of the site, which was in the 1950s, a modern milk and cheese dairy. The building contains 98 dwelling units including 9 laneway townhomes. Ground floor retail faces both Main Street and a new community park. Other features include community gardens on the second level, recycled glass roof ballast and solar domestic hot water.
