DIALOG is collaborating with the Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) of Copenhagen and
New York on a new mixed-use project in Vancouver.
The project includes a residential tower, retail and office / showrooms. The site
is three triangular parcels at the north end of the Granville Bridge – a gateway
location to the downtown core.
The tower has a dynamic form – the base is triangular to respond to the site
constraints, and the top is rectangular. The resulting form brings to mind a curtain
being drawn aside to welcome bridge travelers to the core.
The base will activate a residual area of the city under the Granville Bridge.
This weather protected area will be energized by retail and restaurants, and is
designed to be an invigorating canvas for urban creativity; beer gardens, drive
in movies – we even show a giant slip and slide as a possible use in the rezoning
documents.
The project will only be the second application of the LEED® Neighbourhood
Development targets in Vancouver. The project is targeting LEED® ND Platinum.
The central agenda is to create a new benchmark for excellence in architectural
design in downtown Vancouver.
