Exciting New Start ! From left to right: Liz, Nadja and Kalie This year, 14 students were selected for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program at EFSC and will graduate in 2021. During the summer, we had the opportunity to come in each week and gain scanning experience. Through a student mentoring program initiated by the faculty, the seniors were extremely welcoming and helpful in ensuring a smooth transition from one graduating class to another. With the first month of the program coming to an end, I can say with confidence that it has been challenging at times, but it has also been extremely rewarding. We have learned a substantial amount through anatomy projects, scanning time, case studies, the physics of sound and more. From left to right: Amanda, Emily and Sasha Anatomy projects have been a huge component of our education. In groups, we create our own projects based on the anatomical structure we are covering that week. The projects include a diagram of the anatomical structure and sonographic images. These projects have been extremely useful in helping us to identify what we are looking at while scanning and taking ultrasound images, as well as where those things are positioned in the body. These projects have also helped us get to know our classmates, teaching us how to work with others who may not have the same style of learning that we do.
