Spotlight Spotlight on our Graduates Interview with Jodi Life after Graduation Jodi Ozahoski Class 2019 Class of 2019 Diagnostic Medical Sonography graduate, Jodi Ozahoski, gave some insider information on her recent job search after graduation. Jodi wasn’t picky as to where she applied. She told us that she was open to anywhere that would give her a chance. She searched online job boards and various companies for all open positions and applied online through their web forms. After applying, she received several calls to arrange phone interviews. These were more of a verification of information she submitted in her application, and from there, she scheduled her face-to-face interviews. During her face-to- face interviews, she was asked more in-depth questions about her credentials, desired pay wage, and availability. Last but not least, she had to go in for a “working” interview. During this interview, Jodi was asked to scan an Abdomen, Carotid and Thyroid Protocol on one of the company’s employed techs. One of the interviewers immediately told the supervisor that she felt they should hire Jodi. Following a short talk with the supervisor, Jodi was offered the job on the spot. Another job where she had a working interview at called back a few weeks later with a job offer. A third job she applied for, after emailing back and forth, had her in for a face-to-face interview and also offered her a job on the spot. Jodie took the first offer she was given but then also took the second and third. All these positions were per diem, giving her the ability to work all three. Each first day was a combination of nerves, excitement, and little bit of fear for her. Even now, after a month of working at her first job offer, she still is working through some nervousness. Working in the field, Jodi admits, has been much harder than she expected, between learning the computer systems, how to read orders and diagnoses to ensure correct tests are being ordered, and navigating PACS, it has felt a little overwhelming at times. BUT with that being said Jodi is very happy and excited for her future working and growing with the field. Here, at Eastern Florida, we are incredibly proud to see Jodi doing such great things and representing our program so well. Congratulations Jodi! Veterinarian Dr. Mary D’Ambrosio On November 6th, we had the opportunity to learn about veterinary sonography from Dr. Mary Diagnostic Medical Sonography Eastern Florida State College is committed to equal access/equal opportunity in its programs, activities, and employment. For additional information, visit Eastern Florida State College: easternflorida.edu/go/equity Dr. Mary D’Ambrosio D’Ambrosio, who took the time off from her busy practice to come and talk with us. Dr. D’Ambrosio is a veterinarian at the Animal Specialty & Emergency Center of Brevard. The animal hospital is available 24 hours a day and provides services such as diagnostics and treatment by board certified neurologist, emergency treatment, advanced imaging and diagnostics, and canine rehabilitation. During her visit to EFSC, Dr. D’Ambrosio showed us ultrasound cases of various conditions seen in dogs and cats. By viewing these images, students were able to compare the anatomy of humans to that of cats and dogs. At the sonography program here at EFSC, students are able to visit each term to the animal hospital and get hands-on experience scanning cats and dogs. Occasionally, students are also able to observe some of the surgeries done at the hospital. This has been a wonderful experience given to us, being able to scan animal patients in hospital settings.
