Unfortunately, a lot of things have changed due to the worldwide effects of the COVID-19 virus. We miss seeing each other in-person, scanning and observing at our clinical sites. At the same time, our instructors, Dan Clancy and Dr. Harry Holdorf, are working hard to change our in-class program to an online format. They are also looking into new solutions, such as obtaining a piece of mobile sonography equipment called the Butterfly, which combines a transducer and ultrasound machine into one small device that can be used to scan family members at home. This is a wonderful idea that we cannot wait to see implemented! Many of us are wisely using this time of physical distancing to prepare for the SPI. Every sonography student must pass this exam in order to become a board- certified sonographer. Through the exam, student sonographers demonstrate their understanding of the physics of sound, as well as how to manipulate the ultrasound machine to take the best possible images of a patient, which helps the radiologist to make a diagnosis. Sincerely, Nadja Alfonso Jean-Denis Diagnostic Medical Sonography
