Brevard Zoo
The Diagnostic Sonography program at Eastern Florida State College would like to recognize the Brevard Zoo for their recent conservation efforts . Sales from collectible buttons ($ 1 each ) purchased at the zoo have been instrumental in supporting conservation efforts across the globe .
This year ’ s efforts were sent to Australia where news reported hazardous wildfires . The Brevard Zoo stepped in and donated a total of $ 5,000 to the cause . Recipients received $ 1,000 .
Recipients included :
The Zoos Victoria , Australia Zoo , One Tree Planted , WIRES and Zoo and Aquarium Association .
• Zoos Victoria : A leader in conservation efforts as well as oversees three zoological facilities . Zoos Victoria also is the founder of Bushfire Emergency Wildlife .
• Australia Zoo : The home of the Irwin Family , they are adding a new ward in order to take in more patients .
• WIRES : A wildlife rescue team offering support to groups working with affected wildlife .
• One Tree Planted : planted 1,000 trees on behalf of Brevard Zoo .
• Zoo and Aquarium Association : They are working towards the impact on wildlife and native animals in rehabilitation facilities .
A special thanks to Jody Palmer , Brevard Zoo director of conservation programs who felt that due to the magnitude of the disasters the usual limit cap should be doubled this year ( Limit usually is $ 2,500 ). Ms . Palmer assured us that they are quite selective about who receives funds and that proceeds go towards vet care , supplies and rescuing animals in need .
SPCA of Brevard
The Diagnostic Sonography program at Eastern Florida State College would like to recognize the SPCA of Brevard for their efforts this year . The path of hurricane Laura was devastating for both humans and animals alike . After the storm passed , the SPCA responded . Rural shelters were filled with countless dogs and cats from families who lost their home or may have gotten lost during the storm . For those underfunded shelters to make space for new arrivals , the pets who had already been there would be in danger of losing their lives simply due to lack of space . That is where the SPCA of Brevard came in . A caravan of five vehicles left Titusville to head to Lafayette , Louisiana to bring dogs and cats who were at risk of losing their lives back to safety . SPCA brought back 40 dogs ( including two that are potentially pregnant ) and 30 cats .
