Dinner Meals

Encourage your teen to eat whole-grains, fruits and vegetables for its fiber content. Foods high in fiber can help your teen have better control over her blood sugar. A high-fiber dinner includes grilled chicken breast with a 6 oz. baked sweet potato, 1/2 cup of corn and 1 cup of steamed broccoli. You can also try pasta primavera made with 1 cup of whole wheat pasta, 1 cup of mixed vegetables and 1/2 cup of marinara sauce. Add chicken or shrimp for protein and a side salad for extra fiber.

Teens with diabetes can eat hamburgers and hot dogs. Each bun contains about 30 g of carbohydrate. Serve with 1 cup of roasted red potatoes, green beans and a tossed salad for balance and nutrition.
