Enzymes

An enzymes function is to be a catalyst in the breaking down or combining substrates. This means that they make a chemical reaction easier to achieve(or useless energy.) The active site is where these reactions take place. They are named by taking the substrate base (such as lact-) and adding -ase. Meaning that the substrate is called lactose and the enzyme is called lactase. There are many enzymes that aid in digestion including lactase maltase, and amylase. Lock and Key and Induced Fit. Coenzymes are proteins that attach onto enzymes that allow the chemical reaction to take place. An example would be riboflavin and vitamin B-12.
