ON THE RANGE / ON THE COURSE

Thoughts & Tips on Practicing & Playing

3 MISTAKES GOLFERS MAKE ON THE RANGE & HOW TO CHANGE THEM
I hear golfers complain all the time , “ I go to the range for hours each week , but I don ’ t get better .” This typically happens because way too often , golfers approach their practice the wrong way . They never practice with purpose or have a detailed plan for their practice . Below I have listed 3 mistake golfers make practicing and how to change them to get more out of your range time :
1 . NEVER USING ALIGNMENT RODS :
In my 30 + years in golf , this mistake has really changed over the years . For many years , golfers who went to the range did use something on the ground to help with alignment ; they used a golf club . We found more lost clubs on the range each year than we did on the course . Then along came the alignment rod . As a teacher and coach , we started using these fiber glass rods during our teaching sessions , so we did not have to use our clubs . The problem today is I see too many alignment rods in golfers ' bags , instead of on the ground in their practice station . Get a couple alignment rods for yourself and use them . Putting one on your toe line can really help your check your set up for square feet and square shoulders . Put another on the ground near the ball parallel to the one on your toe line . This can really help you pick a specific target and confirm your square to the target line . You could also use the second rod as a “ T ” with the one on your toe line to confirm proper ball position . You can see how proper use of alignment rods can help you value a good set up while you work on your swing mechanics . There are so many other ways alignment rods can benefit your game .
