In 1936 , the Vidago Palace was enhanced by the opening of a nine-hole golf course , designed by famous golf course architect Philip Mackenzie Ross . The golf course was redesigned by Cameron & Powell , specialists in McKenzie Ross designs . The extension of the golf course from nine to 18 holes was developed to retain the integrity of the original design and to faithfully reflect the aesthetics , playability , spirit and character of the site . The clubhouse is an antique and beautiful stone building dating back to 1886 , which once served as Vidago Mineral Water ’ s main bottling facility .
