HIGHWAY CHAPLAIN

A Watchman on the Wall

Isaiah 21:6 For thus has The Lord said unto me:“ Go, set a watchman, Let him declare what he sees”
WE TRUCKERS ARE watchmen running up and down the highways. There have been times when we report impaired drivers on the highways to law enforcement. We witness accidents and stop to render aid and to report on what we observed of the event.
Truckers are always keeping a close eye on traffic and other vehicles around them in order to maintain safety along the highways. Truckers have reported on weather, backups caused by accidents or construction. We report on just about everything along the road.
It was a trucker who reported where the Washington Snipers were sleeping at the rest area in Maryland, and he also used his truck to block the exit. There was the Highway Watch program that was used to train truckers to watch for unusual activity along the highways, travel plazas, and warehouses across America assisting in preventing another terrorist attack.
Now there is another call for us to become watchmen / women, and that is in reporting on the sex trafficking trade that has taken over our nation. Are you aware that the sex trafficking trade is second only to illegal drugs in scope and size here? There is an organization which was formed to educate those in the transportation industry on how to recognize and report sex trafficking, but more about this organization in a moment. First let’ s look at some facts about this illegal practice.
The problem here in the U. S. is both international and domestic. There are young girls who are conned into coming to America in order to find work as a domestic worker and receiving an education at the same time. Their families are overwhelmed by this great opportunity and are very eager to pay a fee to get their daughter out of the poverty they are in.
