Local Occurences (Mvenne)
According to SFGate, the San Francisco coast is not a dead zone yet, however, in the future there is definitely a strong possibility. Although not in CA, Oregon’s coast has had “nearshore hypoxia.” “This condition was discovered in 2002 and has occurred every year since, punctuated by sporadic die-offs of crab and other bottom-dwelling species, including anemones, starfish and sea cucumbers.” Overall, low oxygen areas throughout Oregon are continuing to grow due to global warming, and that means there will be an enormous future impact on aquatic wildlife.
