The Effects of Deadzones

14

Dead Zones create little to no oxygen within the water, whihc sofocates organisms. This harms the economy because it depletes fishing supply for human consumption.

The existence of Dead Zones clearly affect both ecosystems and organisms. When a body of water becomes hypoxic, few to no organisms can live within it. As a Result, animals which are stationary or slow moving bottom feeders can die from lack of oxygen. High Eutrophic levels have the ability to destroy a whole ecosystem within an area. Furthermore, Dead Zones serve a larger threat to endemic species. While some species can repopulate overtime rom other location not affected by the Dead Zone, endemic species are specific to an area. Therefore, if a Dead Zones wipes out a species population, or their food source or ecosystem, the species runs the threat of extinction.
