A very warm welcome to the British Horseracing Development Programme 2022 , which for over 30 years has provided people like you with a springboard to exciting and successful careers within the racing industry .
Over the next two weeks – and then through your placement with industry employers – you will be able to immerse yourselves in British racing , visiting some historic and illustrious venues around Newmarket , broadening your knowledge and understanding of how the industry functions , and learning from some of the very best in the business – including many of our course alumni .
The Development Programme will provide you with a fascinating insight into the varied roles and responsibilities that exist within our sport ; demonstrating that whatever your passion , racing really does have something for everyone .
None of this would be possible without the work of the team at the British Racing School in Newmarket , which hosts the two-week introduction course , or the generous support of our placement sponsors and industry partners . I also want to thank my fantastic team at the BHA , who have overseen an expanded recruitment and selection process , opening the programme to non-university degree students .
This really is a wonderful opportunity to meet new people , ask plenty of questions , and engage in debate about the future of British horseracing . Whether your placement leads to a direct job offer , or you decide to pursue another career within the industry , for anyone passionate about racing , there is no better place to be .
