SHARING STORIES AND HISTORIES: A REFLECTION ON ASSASIN’ S CREED
These are hard times. I know I’ m not alone in that.
I also know I’ m not alone in my love of video games.
In times like these, I’ ve often used video games to cope. They have been there when
I’ ve needed them. A gentle candle in the night. And it hasn’ t just been this past year, but every year.
Video games have brought me closer to people. They’ ve helped me understand and empathize with people whose lives are very different from my own. Video games have gotten me a job. They have helped me pass lonely nights. Video games have given me new friends. And I’ m just one person. Video games have been such an integral part of so many people’ s lives and identities.
That’ s what you’ re going to see here. How video games intersect and impact people’ s lives. Along with some damn good criticism.
Seeing a group of talented writers come together to make this zine. Seeing random passerby come together over Pokémon GO. Seeing friendships form through Overwatch.
Sharing late nights with loved ones over rounds of Smash Bros. Seeing our community at Swarthmore come together to support each other.
