Liquid Agents
The liquid agent that is currently available for aneurysm treatment in the
United States is Onyx HD 500, which solidifies on contact with blood.
Using an endovascular approach like that used in coiling (via a catheter in an
artery in the groin), the doctor injects Onyx HD 500 via a microcatheter into
the aneurysm sac, where it solidifies, causing clotting and obliteration of the
aneurysm. During the procedure, a balloon is placed across the neck of the
aneurysm and inflated temporarily to prevent the Onyx HD 500 from leaking
outside the aneurysm sac.
Onyx HD 500 inserted.
