Childhood is the most innocent phase in human life. It is that stage of life when the human foundations are laid for a successful adult life. However, most of them don’t get to live their childhood. They are forced to do work and live in places where one can’t imagine. Their entire childhood is spent in dark, getting bullied and tortured by others. Yes, that’s the true story of child labour218 million children aged 5 - 17 are involved in child labour worldwide. Globally, 1 in 6 children work. Innocent children are employed by industries and individuals who put them to work under gruelling circumstances. They are made to work for long hours in dangerous factory units and sometimes made to carry load even heavier than their own body weight. In domestic households, little girls are hired to work as servants. It is devastating to know that India is home to close to 13 million children child labourers under 14 years.
The main reason for child labour in India is poverty and lack of education. Most of the rural areas and towns in India are not even aware with the fact that child labour is wrong and unacceptable. Furthermore, most of the poor families sell their daughter for little amount of money where those girls are taken to big cities for making cigars or weaving clothes.
The effects of child labour can be very dangerous to an underage worker. Some of the effects include greater risks of hearing loss, losing their minds and mental state. Child labour is something that India’s economy thrives on. Without the huge child labour force there then many of the things we see and use every day would be super expensive or not there all. Although there are laws against child labour in India, they are not strongly enforced because the economy relies so much on it. Child labour is wrong and immoral.
