Las Islas Galápagos son declaradas por la UNESCO un Patrimonio Mundial de la Humanidad y Reserva de Biosfera. Estas Islas son únicas en el mundo y se consideran el último paraíso escondido del planeta. Se encuentran a 972 kilómetros al Oeste de Ecuador, y su nombre se lo deben a las gigantescas Tortugas Galápagos que habitan en el lugar. Hace siglos fueron refugio de filibusteros y piratas, en la actualidad son el paraíso de los turistas y de los científicos. Las Islas Galápagos son el perfecto lugar para entender los cambios evolucionarios que han dado paso a una nueva perspectiva de la vida en el planeta. El célebre científico Charles Darwin visitó las Islas en 1835, tomó muestras de la flora y la fauna y realizó estudios y experimentos que formaron parte de la base de la Teoría de la Evolución de las Especies en la Tierra.

They are located 972 kilometers west of Ecuador, and the name of them is owed to the giant Galapagos Turtles that inhabit the place. Centuries ago were a refuge for buccaneers and pirates.
