Meet Judge Wes Bradford:
A NEW CHAPTER OF SERVICE TO BOONE, NEWTON AND SEARCY COUNTIES
The 4th Judicial District Court of Arkansas welcomed a new face this January, but Wes Bradford is hardly new to the courtroom. A lifelong resident of Harrison and a 27-year veteran Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, Judge Bradford brings deep experience, a heart for justice, and a strong connection to the community into his new role.
After graduating from Harrison High School, Wes attended North Arkansas College for two years before earning his law degree from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. In 1997 he began his career as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, serving in the 10th and 22nd Judicial Districts before moving to Boone County in 2004 to serve in the 14th Judicial District.
Today, Judge Bradford presides over criminal and civil cases across Boone and Newton counties, holding regular court sessions in Harrison, Jasper, Marshall, and Alpena. Civil and small claims cases are heard monthly, with civil matters over $ 5,000 requiring an attorney and small claims under $ 5,000 offering individuals the option to represent themselves. Criminal dockets fill much of his schedule, with arraignments in the morning and trials in the afternoon, and daily 8.1 hearings— where defendants still in jail have their charges and bonds explained— conducted via Zoom.
Behind the scenes, he reviews probable cause affidavits, search warrant applications, and keeps busy managing a team he proudly describes as“ the most awesome clerks,” including offices in Harrison, Jasper, Marshall, and Alpena. Bradford credits their professionalism and dedication with helping him transition smoothly into the role:“ The courts run because of them. I have a whole
new appreciation for the work that goes on behind the scenes.”
Judge Bradford says stepping from prosecutor to judge was an eye-opening experience.“ As an attorney, you’ re advocating for one side. As a judge, you must be neutral and hear both sides equally. It’ s a new challenge— and one I’ m really enjoying.”
He approaches his court with a philosophy shaped by decades of experience:“ Some people who come before the court aren’ t criminals. They’ ve made a mistake and want to change. Others are career criminals making the same choices over and over. Every individual deserves to be treated fairly and individually.” Outside the courtroom, Wes Bradford
has long been committed to serving his community. He’ s been an active member of the Lions Club for nearly 20 years, served in leadership roles with Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, and currently helps lead Trail Life, a Christ-centered outdoor adventure program for boys. He also just wrapped up four years as Head Coach of the Harrison High School Trap Team, where his youngest son, Matthew, competed from seventh grade through graduation.
Family remains at the heart of everything for Judge Bradford. He married his high school sweetheart, Carol, and together they raised two sons, Jacob and Matthew. Jacob is now a senior at College of the Ozarks, majoring in History with a minor in English, with plans to work as a Park Interpreter for the National Parks Service. Matthew, a 4.0 GPA student and standout athlete, recently made a courageous decision after receiving acceptance letters from 11 different colleges and universities. After thoughtful prayer and careful research, he chose a different path— service to his country. This summer, Matthew will head to the U. S. Navy, with plans to take the Physical Screening Test and pursue Navy SEAL training.
With roots deeply planted in Harrison and a passion for fair, respectful service both on and off the bench, Judge Wes Bradford is honored to take on this new chapter, standing for justice, community, and integrity across Boone and Newton counties.
