When to Move ... You are marking fish but they are not interested . You have tried a variety of presentations from subtle to
aggressive with not much luck . The fish you have caught have been small . It is time to fish aggressive and use a bit of run and gun fishing . Work the rest of the area that you have already drilled . Give each hole about five minutes . If nothing happens , it is time to move . This might be a wise time to make a larger move . If you were fishing a shallow weed line , perhaps it is time to go try a deeper rocky point . Or maybe you were working shallow structures ( flooded trees , rocks , etc .) with no luck . Now it might be wise to work flooded points from the top of the point to the bottom . At the end of the day you want to cover as much different water as possible until you can pattern an active school .

There is truly no one perfect thing to do on any given day . Some people are totally content to sit and catch 4-5 fish per hour , while others are looking for that jackpot location and they won ’ t stop until they find it . I ’ ve heard this saying many times “ Never leave fish to find fish .” I don ’ t totally agree with this statement and this is why . If you are really thinking about leaving a spot where you are catching fish , then maybe that spot isn ’ t satisfying you on that particular day . Don ’ t be afraid to go for it . You never know where the jackpot location might be . Fishing can be one of the most humbling adventures on the planet . Bites can come and go in minutes . Perhaps this Midwest obsession has to do with our childhood memories of catching them off the dock . Or maybe it ’ s the brilliance of their colors coming up the hole or the way they can dig and peel drag from your reel . Not to mention that they are arguably the best tasting fish out there . Regardless of your reason , Devils Lake is on the radar of all serious perch fishermen . This is because of the likelihood and anticipation of the next flurry occurring . •
