According to Kerfoot, “You’ll see the Brainerd Lakes and the surrounding forest like you’ve never seen it before.” Mark Simonson, The Kerfoot family name has been synonymous with outdoor adventure since the 1930s. Lee Kerfoot’s grandparents used to own and operate the Gunflint Lodge. The family got into the zip lining business in 2013 when they opened the Kerfoot Canopy Tour in Henderson. A second location, the Brainerd Zip Line on Mount Ski Gull, opened for business in May 2016. SMALL ENGINE REPAIR After the biologists were done with their work, the zip lines were turned into a recreational canopy tour that has inspired similar offerings around the world, including right here in Central Minnesota thanks to Lee Kerfoot, who lives in Carver. Historical evidence shows that zip lines have been used in the Himalayas and Alps for multiple purposes, including transportation. Modern zip lining was made popular by wildlife biologists who wanted to study the dense forests of Costa Rica without disturbing the environment.
