This is well worth doing to appreciate the reef and the breaking of the waves as aggressive white foam waves before settling as they near the beaches .
In contrast to the white sands , visit Black River Gorge National Park with its endemic biodiversity , which is actively encouraged in the Ebony Forest and other locations around the island . We took a 4 x 4 ‘ safari ’ ride around Ebony Forest , but if you visit in the wet season , take your mosquito spray ! Mauritius is sugar cane island , with sugar cane comes rum . For a real Mauritian rum tasting , visit Rhumerie de Chamarel to try clear to dark rums of the island . Chamarel waterfalls . Seven Colored earth is within the same park . A natural phenomenon of colours ranging from greys , to yellows , to pinks and purples , all sweeping across a relatively small area as one big series of giant colorful waves .
Alexandra Falls with its impressive “ paper ’ tree lined entrance enthralls from the start , even before you get to the car park ! Just up the road , another stop off gives breathtaking views across the inner part of Mauritius . Multiple trees cling the hillsides , taking on the shape of the hills and they duck and dive around each other . From the elevated position , the trees take on a falseness of being stuck there as a child ’ s art project made up of green coloured sponges and sticks holding the canopy aloft .
Anahita Golf Resort and Spa - private owned villas sit alongside hotel suites to create this home from home complex as owners and short stay guests mingle and enjoy the extensive facilities in the pristine white ‘ villages ’ A transfer service was by was of an extended golf cart which swept around the ‘ villages ’ depositing its residents at various stops for shops , cafes , golf or restaurants . The Big Easy ( Ernie Else ) 18-hole golf course is on site , and has a wonderful resort feeling to it . With Ile Aux cerfs in view , Anahita is on the East side of the island . A course that seemed to play long , but weirdly wasn ’ t really in length ! A nice big easy start as the course takes you away from the clubhouse inland until thrusting you onto hole 4 , a Par 5 377 / 517 meter hole that tantalizes as each shot gets closer to the green before easing you seaward and back into the tropical ocean blue scenes Mauritius is best known for . Hole nine was in interesting nugget of a golf hole , with its snaking man-made water trench dissecting the fairway as it wiggled along almost the length of this par 4 . At some stage it comes into play . But you can chose when that might be by going either left , right or straight off the tee . Hole 14 was another one of interest .
