can come into play at Avalon . A relatively newly built golf club house of modern angular design leads you through to the course at the back to a large putting practice area . With bent grass on the greens , a grass we were more familiar with , the large , subtle movement on the greens were a pleasure to putt on . Hole 12 , a par 5 green was unusual in so far as it was almost square in shape with softened rounded corners , again with subtle breaks but very few tiered greens . Being higher up allowed for the landscape to become at one with the course . Ravines were in play , often with elevated tee boxes to maximise the far reaching view but also to draw your eye closer to the impending doom below should you trickle the ball off the tee to watch it dribble down into the lush ravines . There was some long hikes from green to tee , but as it is a buggy course , that was negated , giving way to a nice little jaunt between holes .
Fairways were bermuda grass , spongy and easy enough to play with but did snag at times . There was plenty of space on the fairways , but placement was key to scoring well . A course that tacks and jibes along the landscape with ease and with the prevailing southeast winds coming into play in places , makes this a genuine course to enjoy .
Constance Belle Mare Plage- Legends Course The overall appearance is one of age - and not in a bad way . The course is about 30 years old and you can see it has those extra years of establishment on it . Big trees shade the entrance , which then wraps around the building the bar area whereupon the tree canopy was replaced by matching umbrellas . From the balcony was a view that didn ’ t give too much away . Sure , you see the outgoing and incoming hole , but you couldn ’ t survey the whole course from one vantage point . The volcanic rocks seem to have their harsh ragged edged weathered off them , so whilst a great black colour to contrast , these boulders were smoothed and less aggressive looking , softening instead into the course around them , yet still serving the purpose of defining some features . Belle Mare Legends isn ’ t really like most resort courses with wide fairways and huge greens . Hole number four being a classic example of a fairly narrow in places fairway , edged by water left and right . This par 5 , 426 / 506 meter hole was all about placement or playing strategy . Play it with some reverence , and you could score well , take on too much and you could be dipping your toes . Loving the overall appearance of
